I swear the whole audience groaned during the applause break for that game.

not really... it wasn't met with huge support but there was clapping i thought.
 
the Saints Row reaction was great though!

To me it kind of sounded like a wierd mix between groans and ''aww, that's so cute''-sounds followed by some applause.

Saints Row and Wii Party were brilliant. I really liked the audience in this press conference.

Agreed!  I laughed myself thinking back to the GTA Chinatown Wars presentation from last year (year before?).

@apertura:   Thinking back now, I believe it was the 2008 E3 show from Nintendo.  GTA CW was the one "hardcore" game mentioned in a year of Cammie White skateboarding and Wii-Muisc.  It was also nothing but a graphic and about 2 sentences worth of description.  And, I believe it was Cammie who introduced it.  If was a very "scratches head" moment in mixed into a show all about embracing the safe and mainstream.

@apertura:  it started off as a cheer because they'd cheered every other game, but it turned into a 'WTF' laugh... because a saints row game does not fit a handheld at all.

This is what I was thinking as well.  But honestly I hate cats, so I don't care at all.

Exactly.  It wasn't a mocking laugh like last year's PSP-Hannah Montana audience response at the Playstation show, but more of a "what the hell are they thinking?" laugh as if we've all stepped out into a bizarr-o universe where the DS is a recognized platform for graphically violent, profanity heavy games.
