Chelsea Ross named Sun Belt Second Team All-Conference

Freshman leads MT Volleyball in kills, second in digs

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Middle Tennessee freshman outside hitter Chelsea Ross was named Second Team All-Conference by the Sun Belt Wednesday.

A two-time Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week this season, Ross leads the Blue Raiders in kills (4.09 per set) and aces (0.21 per set) while playing in all 119 sets. She is second in the conference, and 46th nationally, in kills per set. Ross has reached double-figures in kills in 27 out of 32 matches with six matches of at least 20 kills.

After posting seven kills against Furman in her collegiate debut, Ross had double-digit kills in each of the next 13 matches. On Oct. 10, the freshman had a season-high 29 kills on a school record 82 attacks in a five-set match at Austin Peay, hitting .280 for the match. Ross has also recorded 12 double-doubles on the year. On Sept. 29, Ross had 19 kills and a season-high 16 digs in a 3-1 win at Louisiana. In Sun Belt matches, Ross averaged 3.98 kills and 2.67 digs per set.

The Blue Raiders take on North Texas in the first round of the 2012 Sun Belt Championships at E.A. Diddle Arena on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
