Tanner Stump enters his second season as the assistant men's tennis coach at Middle Tennessee. Stump joined the Blue Raiders on the heels of a four-year playing career at Mississippi State.

Stump was instrumental in the Blue Raiders' success during his first season in 2012. Working with head coach Jimmy Borendame, the 2011 and 2012 Sun Belt Coach of the Year, Stump helped guide MT to its second consecutive Sun Belt tournament title and 11th NCAA Championship berth. The Blue Raiders also knocked off seven nationally ranked opponents during the season and finished with a 19-8 record, marking the most wins since 1997 for the MT program.

Stump was a solid contributor both on and off the court of the Bulldogs throughout his career. He earned the Newsom Award his junior and senior seasons, given to the MSU student-athlete who boasts the highest grade point average for his team. The Bradenton, Fla., native also was named to the Southeastern Conference Men’s Tennis Community Service Team and is a two-time Academic All-SEC honoree. A four-year letterwinner at MSU, Stump helped the Maroon and White to the SEC West crown during his senior campaign and the team’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005.

“I’m thrilled to join the Blue Raider program alongside coach Borendame,” Stump said. “We have a lot to build on from last year’s Sun Belt championship team and I hope to add to the storied tradition already in place here at Middle Tennessee.”

Stump specialized in doubles during his tenure at MSU. He finished the spring of his senior campaign with four doubles victories, including a pair of wins against SEC opponents.

Stump graduated from MSU in 2011 with a degree in business administration. He is married to Chelsea Stump.
