Clarke, Perkins to add size, speed to receiving corps
December 19, 2012 · @MTAthleticsMURFREESBORO - Middle Tennessee Head Football Coach Rick Stockstill announced today the signing of wide receivers Devin Clarke and Chris Perkins to scholarship agreements. Both student-athletes are junior college transfers.
Clarke, 5-11, 173, makes his way to Murfreesboro after playing the past two seasons at Butler Community College. The Sebring, Fla., native helped Butler to an 11-1 record this past season with 19 receptions for 238 yards and a touchdown. Butler also went 11-1 his freshman year as he posted 18 catches for 271 yards and a score.
Clarke, who has been on teams the past three years with a combined record of 31-4, was a three-star recruit coming out of Sebring High School by Rivals.com and Scout.com.
"We are excited to have Devin in our program," said Justin Watts, recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach. "He adds a lot of speed and will be an instant downfield threat. Devin can play inside or outside with his combination of size and speed."
Perkins, 6-3, 215, played last season at Pearl River Community College where he hauled in 19 passes for 232 yards and four touchdowns. The Hazelhurst, Miss., product originally signed with Alcorn State coming out of high school and had seven receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown for the Braves as a true freshman.
Perkins, who redshirted in 2011, was rated one of the Top 125 players in the state of Mississippi by the Clarion-Ledger coming out of Hazelhurst High School.
"Chris is a big, strong, physical receiver who should have an immediate impact on our offense," said Watts. "We look forward to having him here in January so he can go through our offseason workouts and spring practice."
The Raiders lose three scholarship receivers and four total to graduation, including all-conference performer Anthony Amos.
