Goeglein selected first team Capital One Academic All-District

MURFEESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee senior midfielder Paige Goeglein garnered Capital One first team Academic All-District ® III honors on Thursday, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Goeglein, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., holds a 3.93 GPA in Economics. Goeglein is tied for first nationally with eight game-winning goals. She leads the Sun Belt and ranks 22nd in the NCAA with 32 points. Her 14 goals this season also leads the league and is 12th in the nation.

Earlier this week, the senior was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year, while earning first team All-Sun Belt distinction. She earned numerous awards throughout the season, including a spot on the College Soccer 360 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll.

"Paige epitomizes what it means to be a student-athlete," said head coach Aston Rhoden. "She has strong performances on the field and in the classroom. We strive for each of our student-athletes to excel in academics and athletically. She is just one of many on our team that meet those expectations."

Goeglein was the only representative from a Tennessee institution on the District III (NC, TN and VA) honorees list. She joined other programs such as Charlotte, Duke, High Point, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Western Carolina on the 11-person team. As a first team Academic All-District ® honoree, Goeglein advances to the Capital One Academic All-America team ballot. Academic All-America selections will be announced later this month.

The Academic All-District ® teams include the student-athletes listed and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

Middle Tennessee (14-4-1) is in the midst of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Blue Raiders, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, knocked off No. 7 South Alabama 2-1 on Wednesday to advance to the semifinals. MT takes on No. 3 FIU on Friday, Nov. 2 in a 7 p.m. match at the Cage in Mobile, Ala.
