Goeglein grabs first team Capital One Academic All-America® Honors

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee soccer's Paige Goeglein grabbed first team Capital One Academic All-America® honors as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

An economics major with a 3.93 G.P.A., Goeglein scored 14 goals for the Blue Raiders. She was named as the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Blue Raiders to a 14-5-1 record.

The leading scorer in the Sun Belt Conference with 32 points, she is second in the nation with eight game-winning goals. Goeglein was the 19th-leading scorer in NCAA Division I and was honored as the Sun Belt Player of the Week twice.

The Fort Wayne, Ind., native concluded her illustrious career with 23 goals and 10 game-winning strikes. She finished fourth all-time at MT with a .172 shooting percentage and logged 5,773 minutes during her four year career.

"This is a fantastic accomplishment for Paige and our program," said head coach Aston Rhoden. "It is a fitting end for a wonderful career for her."

Goeglein is the fourth first team Academic All-America® selection in school history, joining the likes of Lianne Beck (women's basketball - 1988), Melanie Manley (softball) and Chrissy Givens (women's basketball - 2007). She is the 13th Blue Raider to earn Academic All-America accolades since the program began in 1952. Earlier this month, Goeglein was named to the first team Academic All-District III. She joins WKU's Allison Stahlke as honorees from the Sun Belt Conference.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 16,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
