MT Soccer earns four NSCAA Scholar All-Region awards

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee Soccer picked up more academic accolades as four Blue Raiders earned Scholar All-South Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Paige Goeglein led the list with a first team selection. Whitney Jorgenson and Allison Stallard grabbed second team honors, while defender Charity Blair earned a spot on the third team. The four selections matched the previous school record of four Scholar All-South Region selections in 2010. Earlier this fall, MT Soccer notched its 12th consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award and ranked in the Top 40 nationally in grade point average.

Goeglein, a native of Ft. Wayne, Ind., holds a 3.95 GPA in Economics. Earlier this year, she became the first Blue Raider soccer player to earn Capitol One Academic All-America honors and only the fourth MT student-athlete in school history to garner a spot on the first team. Goeglein was also named to the NSCAA Scholar All-American team, joining Vanessa Mueggler (2010) as one of two Scholar All-America honorees at Middle Tennessee.

Last month, Goeglein was named the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year. The midfielder led the Blue Raiders, as well as the conference, in scoring with 14 goals and 32 points, putting her 19th nationally. Goeglein was also rated as the top player in the Sun Belt by College Sports Madness' postseason conference player rankings.

Jorgenson earned second team honors after tallying a 3.70 GPA in Global Studies. The Overland Park, Kan., native finished her senior campaign with nine goals, seven assists and 25 points in 20 matches.

She ranks eighth all-time with 66 points, fifth with 20 assists and is the school record holder with 80 games started. Jorgenson also earned spots on the Sun Belt All-Conference team and the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Top 20 players rankings.

Stallard, a native of Colleyville, Texas, grabbed second team honors with a 3.50 GPA in History. As a defender, Stallard joined Blair in giving up 25 goals to opponents this season. She finished second in MT history with 79 game starts, while playing a total of 83 games in her career for third overall. The Coffeyville, Texas native earned first team All-Sun Belt honors, while earning a ranking on the CSM Sun Belt Top 20 list.

Blair earned third team recognition with a 3.40 GPA in Dietetics. The Chattanooga native anchored a defensive backline that gave up just 25 goals to opponents. She ranks seventh all-time with 5,931 minutes played and is second all-time with two penalty kick goals. Blair earned second team All-Sun Belt honors for the 2012 season, as well as earning a CSM Sun Belt Top 20 ranking.

"We had an outstanding 2012 senior class and it's great to see them recognized not only for their athletic abilities, but also for the commitment they have made to their academic responsibilities," said head coach Aston Rhoden.

"They are true student athletes and I'm very proud of Allison, Charity, Paige and Whitney for earning this award."

The Raiders compiled a 14-5-1 record in 2012 and snatched their second Sun Belt Conference regular season title in school history. Offensively, Middle Tennessee ranked second in scoring offensive with 2.85 goals per game.
