Men's golf inks world's sixth-ranked junior player

MURFREESBORO - The world's sixth-ranked junior golfer and consensus junior all-american, Tae Wan Lee, has signed a scholarship agreement with Middle Tennessee as announced by Head Coach Whit Turnbow. Lee, from South Korea, resides in Orlando, Fla., where he attends Downey Christian High School (same school as current Blue Raider Andrew Cho).

Lee, who has been ranked as high as fifth in the world, was recruited by Florida, LSU, Virginia, and Southern Cal. Lee, a Rolex Junior All-American, is the highest rated recruit to ever sign with Middle Tennessee in golf.

"To bring in a student-athlete of Tae Wan's caliber says a lot about our golf program and University," said Turnbow. "He has competed against the best juniors in the world and performed at a high level. He's a great student with a 3.8 GPA and has a chance to make an immediate impact on our team to help us compete on a national level."

Earlier this year, Lee tied for second at the Western Junior Championship following a final round 66 and was second at the TaylorMade-Adidas Golf Junior at Innisbrook. Lee also tied for ninth at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and came in third at the Thunderbird International Junior. In 2011, Lee tied for seventh at the Asian Amateur.

Lee will join a Blue Raider team that returns its entire lineup from this season, along with two-time all-conference player Brett Patterson. Patterson is out for the year with an injury.
