Christie's Country House sale
Horsenden Manor, in the heart of the Buckinghamshire countryside, is a Norman stately home with grand sweeping parklands designed by Capability Brown. Once a Royalist stronghold in the Civil War (rumour has it that cannon balls have been found in the moat), most recently its been owned by an elderly couple who have now decided to sell up and move on to something, well - smaller.
Christie's are managing the sale which is bound to include a cornucopia of junk and fine craftsmanship: a superb 18th-century Russian writing table; a portfolio of lithographs by Fernard Leger and a collection of Royal Doulton character jugs. Lots start at pounds 30 and rise to around pounds 30,000.
First-time bidders shouldn't be shy or put off by the pros. "Simply turn up, register your name, and nod your head at your price," say Christies. Just don't wink, shrug or sneeze.
10.30am; Horsenden Manor, Risborough, Bucks. Christie's 0171-839 9060
