Letter: Politically Correct
TOM McARTHUR ('Enter the era of caring words', 23 August) may not subscribe to the 'politically correct' movement, but he does seem to have accepted one of the more prudish neologisms of recent years in his reference to 'the gender of God'. Chambers English Dictionary defines 'gender' as 'a distinction of words roughly answering to sex (gram.): loosely or jocularly, sex'. Is Mr McArthur's use of the word intended to be loose, jocular or (as I suspect) euphemistic?
