Q. Has any team won all four of the old Divisions of the Football League, before the formation of the Premiership?

A. Wolverhampton Wanderers are unique in that they are the only club to have won the championship of five different Divisions of the Football League. Their first title was that of the old Third Division North in 1923-24. Eight seasons later, they won the old Second Division and then during the Fifties, secured the First Division Championship on no fewer than three occasions.

Another Second Divison success followed in 1976-77 and after several lean years, they re-emerged in the late Eighties to win the Fourth Division and Third Division titles in successive seasons.

The only other club to have won Divisions One to Four are Burnley, who were the last winners of the old Fourth Division in 1991-92, while Grimsby Town and Brentford have also won four different titles - the Second, Third and Fourth Divisions, as well as the old regionalised Third Division.

Incidentally, 88 different clubs have won at least one League title since 1888. Liverpool's 22 makes them the most successful, while Crewe Alexandra, Hartlepool United and Rochdale are still awaiting their first in 75 years. - Rod Cross, Southampton
