Sikhs shoot 31 in revenge killings
BHAKTGARH (AP) - Sikh militants herded 17 Punjabi villagers into a school playground yesterday and shot them to avenge the death of a guerrilla chief. Nine people were killed in raids on nearby villages. All the victims were relatives of policemen.
In a separate incident, five policemen or their family members were killed. The attacks came after the deaths of three Sikh separatist leaders in the last two weeks. Police shot Sukhdev Singh, the leader of Babbar Khalsa International, on Sunday. He was one of India's most wanted men for eight years.
