It was a gathering for ardent Roni Horn devotees, who came in all their finery to the foyer of Tate Modern's Level 4 to raise a toast to the New York artist at her show's opening party.

Adam Weinberg, head of the Whitney Museum of American Art, flew in to be at Horn's side and be dazzled by works in her retrospective, ranging from powerful photographs to watery installations. The French artist Annette Messager, whose Hayward show opens next week, surveyed the room as Vicente Todoli, Tate Modern's director, stood amid a scrum of art world supremos including Weinberg, an elegant Iwan Wirth and the ever-stylish Iwona Blazwick, who admired Horn's wonderfully girlie sculpture, Pink Tons, made from solid pink glass.

The spritely, bespectacled Horn was flanked by family members, with her brother Matt dutifully holding a bunch of flowers for her while her niece Georgina sashayed to the bar. Waiters floated deftly with supplies of cocktails, wine and elderflower cordials. Like Horn's work, the offerings were stylishly minimal. Recession chic is all the rage...
