Letter: Control of art sales
Sir: George Levy (letter, 3 March) regrets the betrayal of trust reflected by the epidemic of attempts to sell works of art donated to public institutions by private individuals. The Government does nothing to discourage this sorry state of affairs.
What is needed as a matter of urgency is legislation to control the sale of works of art by public and semi-public bodies. Nothing more, nothing less.
Yours faithfully,
HUGH LEGGATT
