We are delighted to announce that The Independent on Sunday has taken seven – yes, SEVEN! – titles at the European Newspaper Awards, which celebrate the very best in newspaper design. There were more than 230 entries from 25 countries, and The IoS won more awards than any other British paper.

This follows the three titles we took in New York in February at the Society for News Design Awards, the gold standard of the industry. The IoS was the only British national newspaper to win.

The awards are a just reward for Colin Wilson, Sarah Morley, and Steve Petch, our fantastic team of designers for both The IoS and The New Review. They also reflect the importance we all place on design as a key component of making a bright and lively newspaper.

Our pop expert Simon Price was a winner last week too, named as Live Reviews Writer of the Year at the Record of the Day Awards for Music Journalism and PR. It is the THIRD year in a row he has won. Perhaps they should retire the category and allow him to keep the trophy.

Next up, the inaugural British Press Awards on Tuesday. Jane Merrick, our brilliant political editor, is shortlisted, as is Sarah Morrison, one of our bright newsroom dynamos.

Let's hope they can follow in the footsteps of Janet Street-Porter, named Columnist of the Year at the Editorial Intelligence Awards, and Emily Dugan, who won a Human Trafficking Foundation Media award for her coverage of domestic slavery.

And let us not forget our photographers: Jason Alden was named Bloomberg Business Photographer of the Year, while Justin Sutcliffe's moving portrait of the late police officer David Rathband is on display at the National Portrait Gallery in London as part of the Taylor Wessing Prize.
