Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed the Reds are in talks to hand Daniel Sturridge a new long-term contract, with the striker set to join the top earners in the Premier League.

It's claimed that the Reds are ready to offer the 25-year-old £150,000-a-week to keep him at the club until 2019.

Sturridge still has four-years remaining on his current deal, signed 18 months ago following his £12m switch from Chelsea, but it comes as little surprise that Liverpool are wanting him to agree new terms.

The England international has been brilliant since moving to Anfield, notching 36 goals in 52 appearances for the Reds. His importance to the team, particular since the departure of Luis Suarez, has been highlighted by the club's poor form coinciding with his current injury problems.

Liverpool failed to find the back of the net last night as they lost to Basel in the Champions League and remain with just one win in normal time since August.

Sturridge could return for the Premier League game against West Brom on Saturday, however it's been agreed that he will play no part in the upcoming England qualifiers for Euro 2016 against San Marino and Estonia.
