Number two seed Roger Federer, who won the title five years in a row between 2004 and 2008, takes on the entertaining number 20 seed Gael Monfils. While Federer has not won a Grand Slam since Wimbledon 2012 (when he defeated Britain's Andy Murray) Newman argues that Federer has a good shot at reclaiming the US title after a six-year hiatus.

Monfils got to quarter-final without dropping a set and beating seeds like Grigor Dimitrov and Richard Gasquet.
