Game of Thrones fans are convinced they’ve spotted a major spoiler hiding in the latest promos for season eight.

HBO released three batches of footage – titled “Survival”, “Together”, and “Aftermath” – that include shots of Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) standing before Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) in Winterfell.

Reddit user Spiral66 has speculated that the “Together” promo features a shot of Daenerys and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) at Dragonstone. She does appear to be standing in front of the Dragonstone fireplace, with Spiral66 creating a direct comparison of the promo shot with an image from season seven.

What it suggests is that both Daenerys and Jon have survived the major battle about to kick off at Winterfell, against the army of the dead, and have travelled or retreated to Dragonstone in its aftermath.

Spiral66 told The Huffington Post: “When the promo came out, most people assumed, including myself, that the shot of Dany was before the big battle at Winterfell. But as this sub has a tendency to overanalyse things, I started thinking, ‘What if this was somewhere else?’ And sure enough, after looking up the Dragonstone fireplace, the carvings from both images matched.”

“After that I checked what the Winterfell fireplaces looked like and they seem to have a much more traditional style so then I became certain this scene was at Dragonstone.”

“Dany and Jon (who is briefly in this clip) at Dragonstone suggests that after presumably losing Winterfell, they retreat to Dragonstone and use it as their new base of operations,” Spiral66 added. “As others have noticed, Dany seems to be contemplative ― maybe even mourning over the lost battle and lives. Jorah or Greyworm maybe as some of the casualties?”

The final season of Game of Thrones reaches TV screens 14 April. The show will be available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Read everything you need to know about the forthcoming season here.
