Tottenham transfer news: Spurs sign England under-16 international Alfie Devine from Wigan

Midfielder was released by Liverpool when he was 11 but has impressed in England’s youth set-up

Tottenham have signed 15-year-old midfielder Alfie Devine from Wigan.

Devine was released by Liverpool when he was 11 but impressed recently while playing for England under-16s.

Wigan took to social media on Tuesday to announce the news.

“Confirmed: U18 midfielder Alfie Devine has completed his permanent transfer to @SpursOfficial,” tweeted the club.

“We wish Alfie well in his future career.”

The transfer is believed to have cost Spurs – who bid farewell to goalkeeper Michel Vorm and defender Jan Vertonghen this week – approximately £300,000.

Wigan are currently facing administration and were relegated from the Championship last week.

The club’s administrators also announced last week that takeover talks with their preferred bidder had collapsed. A total of five offers were made by interested parties
