Cultural Life: Susannah Harker, Actress

Theatre

I caught a matinee of The Recruiting Officer at the Donmar, which was Josie Rourke's first opening production and I thought it was just brilliant. I haven't seen a Restoration Comedy since being in She Stoops to Conquer years ago, so it was amazing for that to be refreshed. Those plays are still so funny, immediate and relevant with all the universal themes of love, betrayal and the corruption of innocence and power.

Music

I really like Johnny Flynn, my son listens to him and I think he's just brilliant. I love that entire nu-folk scene and I've always listened to Bob Dylan.

Films

I recently saw the new cut of Les Enfants du Paradis at the Ritzy and it completely blew me away. It's about actors, and of course my whole family are actors so it touched something very profound in me and what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. I also watched an amazing Swedish film called In a Better World by Susanne Bier. It's quite a modern, harrowing piece that won an Oscar last year. I was completely blown away by it and came out of that feeling nourished.

Television

I watched Meet the Romans with Mary Beard, which was brilliant. I love a good documentary and that was just wonderful. I also like Dr. Lucy Worsley who did A History of the Home. I love people who are impassioned and enthusiastic about what they do.

Susannah Harker is in 'Abigail's Party' at Wyndham's Theatre, London WC2, 15 May to 1 September,www.delfontmackintosh.co.uk
