The new-wave synth sounds of George Lewis Jr, aka Twin Shadow, wouldn't have been out of place on the film soundtrack of the Ryan Gosling vehicle (ahem) Drive.

Appropriately, on twinshadow.net – where you can grab the MP3 of his new song "Five Seconds" – the accompanying visuals appear to be that of vehicles travelling along an empty road. The song, all propulsive synths and yearning vocals, is the first to emerge from the New Yorker's new album, Confess, due in July.

Summer starts in the Field of pop dreams

The Field Day festival in London's Victoria Park tends to throw up a good haul of the most interesting musicians on the summer circuit. This year's event in June is no exception, with the likes of Tortoise, Andrew Bird, Grimes and Sunless 97 showing out.
