Liverpool vs Manchester United: Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher go head-to-head in Twitter clash
Liverpool could move six points clear of their rivals with a win
Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand have been going head-to-head on social media ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool on Monday night.
The clash is one of the biggest league meetings between the two in recent seasons as the Reds could move top of the Premier League with a victory by three goals or more.
However, a win for United will see them keep pace with Liverpool and Chelsea and move to within three points of Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the table.
The derby will be the first time Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp come face-to-face with their new clubs and Ferdinand and Carragher were stoking the flames ahead of the 8pm kick off.
Ferdinand taunted the Liverpool legend over never winning the Premier League title while he won six, only for Carragher to hit back with claims his fellow centre back tried to engineer a move to Chelsea when they won the league in 2005.
Liverpool go into the game as favourites having already secured impressive victories over Arsenal, Leicester and Chelsea and were unfortunate not to claim all three points against Tottenham earlier in the season.
The Twitter exchange came as Mourinho learned he would avoid a one-match ban for comments made about referee Anthony Taylor, who will be officiating Monday’s mammoth clash.
