Klinsmann faces sack after thrashings

The nine goals Bayern Munich conceded last week may have put an end to Jürgen Klinsmann's reign at Bayern Munich. Bild, the red-top for which club president Franz Beckenbauer writes a column, yesterday claimed Klinsmann would be fired at the end of the season. It added that failure to defeat Eintracht Frankfurt at home today would lead to an immediate dismissal. This may be speculative, but Klinsmann is under intense pressure to at least retain the Bundesliga title.

Klinsmann has said he has no intention of resigning and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the chief executive, said, "Now, we have to remain rational, not overreact and not make any senseless, spontaneous decisions." However, Beckenbauer said Wednesday's first half against Barcelona, in which Bayern went 4-0 down following a 5-1 defeat at Wolfsburg last weekend, was "the most dreadful I'd ever seen from Bayern – a catastrophe."

Results have been mixed since Klinsmann arrived at Bayern last summer and the club are third in the Bundesliga, three points behind joint-leaders Wolfsburg and Hamburg. Wolfsburg, who have won their last eight league matches, travel to Borussia Moenchengladbach today while Hamburg travel to Stuttgart.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has threatened to make his players sleep at a club training camp away from their families indefinitely if they do not show better form in today's derby against Roma.
