In his first bout as a yokozuna (grand champion), Takanohana suffered an upset yesterday and ended his winning streak on 30 bouts. The American yokozuna, Akebono, started with a victory on the opening day of the 15-day New Year Grand Sumo Tourname nt, the first event in three years to have two yokozunas competing.
