J J Lehto, the Finnish driver, was in a satisfactory condition in a clinic yesterday after a high-speed crash during his first test session with the Benetton team at Silverstone. He spun at Stowe corner at around 130mph on Friday, the rear of his new B194 taking the brunt of the impact on the safety barriers. He was cut from the car after losing consciousness and taken to hospital suffering from a damaged neck vertebra. He was reported to be keen to return to the track, ahead of the start of the Formula One season in Brazil in March.
