Singer Alison Moyet is to be honoured at annual music event the Silver Clef Awards.

The performer - who has hid hits with "Yazoo" and in her own right as well as starring in West End productions - is to be given the "icon award".

She will receive her honorary prize from her friend Dawn French at the event later this month.

The awards ceremony, to be staged at the London Hilton on June 28, is staged for charity Nordoff Robbins, which helps vulnerable people with music therapy.

Moyet, 51, said she was honoured to be recognised at an event which does so much for the charity.

"I've admired their work for many years and it feels really special to be recognised by them as an 'icon'," she said.

Other award recipients at this year's O2 Silver Clef Awards include Bee Gees star Barry Gibb, who gets a lifetime achievement prize, Coldplay, named the best British act, and Labrinth, who is being handed the innovation award.
