Bob's boy heads out into the American wilderness with a posse of notorious henchmen – Marc Ribot and Greg Leisz among them.
Those in the know will recognise them as guarantee of a certain degree of rootsical tastiness. And the restrainedly arty tone suits the former Wildflower's burr of a voice rather well, as does the vocal support of Neko Case and Kelly Hogan.
It's produced by T-Bone Burnett and mythic America is everywhere. Yet, for music so concerned to imagine a frontier, it lacks edge.
