OLYMPICS / Barcelona 1992: Diving: Tan's sad silver reprise
MARK LENZI will, of course, be deservedly delighted with his gold medal in the springboard diving, but nearly everyone else will feel a touch of sadness for the runner-up.
For the third consecutive Games Tan Liangde (left) took a silver medal. He was eclipsed by Greg Louganis at both Los Angeles and Seoul and yesterday he had to give best to a brilliant successor. The 27-year-old Tan, of China, was generous in defeat, though. 'Mark did a very, very superb performance,' he said.
He was right, too, as the American won by a comfortable margin of 30 points with some bewilderingly difficult dives - including both forward and reverse three and a half somersaults.
