The Gloucester coach Bryan Redpath has demanded a major improvement in discipline ahead of today's West Country derby against Bath at Kingsholm.

The Cherry and Whites have had an indifferent start to the Premiership season, which has seen a narrow defeat to Northampton, victory over Worcester and a five-try thumping at Harlequins.

Redpath described the 42-6 defeat to leaders Quins as "embarrassing" and told his club's official website: "It will be a real challenge for us this weekend – we must perform at home. The result generally takes care of itself but we have been in positions to win two of our three matches and we have won only one – there is a big emphasis on smartness around the contact area. We need passion and simplicity. Discipline is massive for us.

"I would have been embarrassed if I was a player on the pitch last week. The Gloucester people stood in the rain and we didn't perform.

"If you play for Gloucester you must give your heart and soul and that's all I expect."

Redpath has restored Tim Taylor to fly-half while centre Jonny May, a try scorer in Gloucester's opening two fixtures, is recalled. Up front, hooker Darren Dawidiuk returns with Will James back from suspension to replace the injured Alex Brown at lock.

For Bath, former Cherry and Whites lock Dave Attwood starts with Nathan Catt and Ross Batty in the front row.

Michael Claassens takes over the captaincy and the number nine shirt with Jack Cuthbert coming in on the wing, allowing Matt Carraro to switch to the centre.

In tomorrow's other fixtures, Leicester host Saracens while winless Newcastle are at London Irish. Worcester face unbeaten leaders Harlequins with Sunday's only game being Wasps playing Exeter away.
