Meanwhile, the Daily Mail report that United rejected a loan bid from Arsenal for defender Eric Bailly.
Unai Emery reportedly wanted to sign Bailly on a temporary deal until the end of the season with a view to a permanent transfer.
Transfer targets: Manchester United
Show all 10Bailly has struggled for regular playing time this season, falling out of favour under both Jose Mourinho and caretaker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
However, United rejected Arsenal's approach out of hand as they were reluctant to "assist a Premier League rival".
United may face a fight in their attempts to appoint RB Leipzig's technical director Paul Mitchell as their new director of football.
According to The Sun, Mitchell is United's top target for the role but Leipzig want him to stay and will offer him a lucrative new contract.
Mitchell was born in Manchester and previously worked as head of recruitment at Tottenham Hotspur, alongside Mauricio Pochettino.
