LAGOS (AFP) - The Nigerian Afro-beat musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was charged with 'conspiracy and murder' by a Lagos magistrate's court, according to his brother, Beko Ransome-Kuti. Fela risks execution if convicted, under Nigera's penal code.

The celebrated musician was arrested last Thursday following the death of one of his employees after a brawl. The employee, an electrician, was allegedly beaten to death by members of Fela's group, on suspicion that he had 'embezzled' 3,000 naira (about pounds 100) belonging to the musician, police said.
