SALMAN RUSHDIE'S Haroun and the Sea of Stories, centring on a young man's quest to renew his father's threatened storytelling powers, gets a visually stunning treatment from Tim Supple and David Tushingham. Although overlong, the ensemble conjuring act, which turns a junkshop of transglobal props into an enchanted landscape, makes a compelling case for the value of make-believe.

Always worth remembering is Yasmina Reza's still tart comedy Art, a sagacious look at that vain, frail, capricious sex - man. The eighth cast of Matthew Warchus's lucid production stars Jack Dee (right) as Serge, the proud owner of a pricey white canvas, Larry Lamb as his outraged friend Marc, and Tim Healy as the neurotic go-between, Yvan.
