Liverpool have a new injury concern after Naby Keita was substituted during Guinea's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda with a suspected hamstring injury.

Keita left the field on the back of a teammate while clutching the back of his thigh in the first half of the match in Kigali, and must now be considered a doubt for Liverpool's trip to face Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Saturday.

His unavailability would be a blow to Jurgen Klopp, who is already without James Milner due to a hamstring injury sustained in Liverpool’s goalless draw with Manchester City, with his earliest potential return date the trip to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal on 3 November.

Keita, a £48 million summer signing from RB Leipzig, has featured in all of Liverpool's first eight Premier League matches this season, though he has only started four times.

Klopp is also set to be without Sadio Mane at the John Smith's Stadium after the forward broke his thumb in training prior to Senegal's match against Sudan, while Mohamed Salah returned to Melwood for assessment after suffering a "minor sprain" on Egypt duty.

Virgil van Dijk came back to Liverpool early for treatment on a rib injury after Netherlands' shock 3-0 win over Germany in the Uefa Nations League, but national team boss Ronald Koeman is confident the defender will be fit to play.

"Virgil has played with two broken ribs in the last weeks," Koeman told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. "He wanted to play against Germany but you have to give the club something back now.

"He [Van Dijk] spoke to the manager. The medical staff of the Dutch national team spoke to the medical staff of Liverpool and made the decision that he was playing only the Germany game and then after back to Liverpool. He is ready to play next weekend."

After winning all of their first seven matches in all competitions, Liverpool are winless in their last four games and have failed to score in their last two outings.
