The Killers score first No.1 US album with 'Wonderful Wonderful'
Las Vegas band had previously made it to No.2 with their second album Sam's Town
The Killers have achieved their first US No.1 album with Wonderful Wonderful.
The record is the Las Vegas band's first to top the album charts in America, after their second album Sam's Town reached No. 2 in 2006, and fourth album Battle Born reached No. 3.
The Killers released Wonderful Wonderful, their fifth record, on 22 September. Nielsen Music reports that it sold 118,000 equivelent units in the week ending 28 September - 111,000 of those were reportedly from traditional album sales.
In the UK the album made music history as the band's fifth No.1 record, making them the first ever international act to achieve five UK No.1s in a row.
British acts Oasis, Coldplay and Arctic Monkeys are the only bands to have equalled or bettered the feat. The Killers' frontman Brandon Flowers now has seven UK No.1 albums, including his two solo records Flamingo and The Desired Effect.
The Independent gave Wonderful Wonderful 3/5 stars, commenting that it felt like the "call to the final gunfight in an old Western".
"There's a cynicism on ["The Man"], where a nod to Bowie seems to ask where the innovation is in modern rock music...
"Wonderful Wonderful is an album that doesn't let the artist look forward to the next track, beacase the album is restlessly glancing over its shoulder, haunted by past successes of The Killers, and the great artists who came before them".
