Mourinho in hot water over derby outburst

The coach of Internazionale, Jose Mourinho, faces a disciplinary hearing for his outburst after Sunday's Milan derby, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) said yesterday.

Mourinho, who spent three years coaching Chelsea, said that "everything was done for us not to win this match" after beating second-placed Milan 2-0 despite having two players sent off to go nine points clear at the top of Serie A.

The Portuguese also said the game had left a "strange taste" in his mouth, adding that: "I've realised they won't let us wrap up the championship early". He was particularly angry with the red card shown to the Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder, who was sent off in the 27th minute for sarcastically applauding the referee.

The FIGC said on its website that Mourinho had been charged for comments damaging to the "credibility of federal institutions and casting doubt on the regularity of the championship".

The club and Inter's chief executive Ernesto Paolillo have been charged too. Paolillo questioned the Italian Soccer League's neutrality after Milan managed to reschedule a fixture to have the week before the derby free, like their city rivals.

Roma's forward Luca Toni will be sidelined for at least six weeks through a calf injury.

The Italy international got hurt during Saturday's 2-1 win at Juventus and tests confirmed Toni sustained damage to his calf muscle in his left leg.

"I am really annoyed that I have to stop now," said Toni. "But when I return to play I will be even more determined than before."

Toni, who joined Roma on loan from Bayern Munich earlier this month, is expect to sit out at least nine games. The 32-year-old has struck two goals in four league appearances for Roma since he joined. The striker fell out of favour with Bayern after falling out with the coach Louis van Gaal.
