The war in Ukraine | Behind The Headlines
On 24 February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced he was invading Ukraine, under the guise of a ‘Special Military Operation’. The conflict has killed over 15,000 people and caused the largest refugee crisis seen in Europe since World War II.
How did this invasion start, what devastation is happening now and is there any peaceful resolution in sight?
The Independent’s international correspondent, Bel Trew, has been on the ground in Ukraine at various points throughout the conflict. She goes Behind The Headlines to give her account of what she has witnessed so far.
