Runaway schoolgirl found
A British teenager has been found in Belgium after going missing from her home, police confirmed.
Nia Witts, 15, disappeared from Penrhyncoch, Aberystwyth, West Wales, on Sunday, sparking a police search.
Two days later, police revealed she had made contact with her family and said they were no longer appealing for information.
Nia was then tracked down in Belgium on Wednesday.
Inspector Eric Evans of Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We can confirm that Nia Witts has been found safe and well in Belgium.
"Arrangements have been made to repatriate and reunite her with her family.
"Police enquiries are continuing."
Nia's page on social networking site Netlog lists her as being 18 - despite her real age being three years younger.
Photographs of the teenager posing with friends are on the site, and she lists her hobbies as being "different things".
She is friends with several young men from Turkey, including one who is seen posing with a gun on the website.
It has been reported that police are concerned about Nia's friendships with the men, aged 20 and 19, from the town of Eskisehir.
Local residents in the community of Penrhyncoch were yesterday celebrating the news she has been found.
Councillor Llewelyn Goronwy Edwards, a friend of Nia's parents Shan and Byron, said: "I am pleased. I have been concerned for the family; so this is excellent news.
"It must have been such a worry for the family, especially as she is only 15."
Mr Edwards said Mrs Witts works for Ceredigion County Council's transport department as a senior transport officer, and that Nia plays football for the local team in Penrhyncoch.
He said: "She is a keen sportsgirl. It's such a pity this has happened, but great news she's been found.
"It's the worst thing that can happen to a parent, to have a child go missing.
"I'm sure Shan and Byron are feeling very relieved."
In a statement issued through Aberystwyth Police to the Cambrian News before she was found, Nia's parents appealed for information.
They said: "We are so very concerned for Nia's welfare. We, and her brothers, love Nia very much.
"We want Nia to know that she is not in any trouble - we are just desperate for news about her."
Debbie Jenkins, team manager of Penrhyncoch Girls Under-16s team, told the newspaper: "I have known Nia since she was in primary school. She is a great girl - really lovely.
"There are rumours in the village that she had been corresponding with someone via the internet, but as far as I know they are just rumours."
She added that the teenager sometimes works in the kitchen at Penrhyncoch FC Social Club, where she had been working last Friday night.
