The Hull City manager Phil Brown is hoping to complete the signing of gMiddlesbrough midfielder George Boateng today. The 32-year-old was due to undergo a medical after the two clubs agreed a fee thought to be around £1m. The Netherlands international will become Hull's fourth summer signing after completing deals for Craig Fagan, Geovanni and Bernard Mendy ahead of their first Premier League season.

Brown said: "George is currently in Sheffield doing a medical and, fingers crossed, in the next 24 hours hopefully we will have another international-quality player." Boateng will bring considerable top-flight experience to the promoted Tigers having spent 11 years in the Premier League with Coventry, Aston Villa and, since 2002, Boro. He leaves the Riverside Stadium in search of more first-team opportunities and, although Brown cannot promise a regular starting slot, the manager sees him as a very welcome addition to his squad.

Brown said: "No one guarantees you first-team football. The only thing that can guarantee you that is playing well week in, week out – and that is what I fully expect from George, but he has to get past the players who are already in the team."

Iwelumo relishes move to Molineux

Chris Iwelumo has completed his move to Wolverhampton Wanderers from Championship rivals Charlton Athletic. The 29-year-old striker has signed a two-year deal and says he is "buzzing" at the prospect of playing at Molineux. "It's been in the background for the last couple of weeks and I'm delighted I'm here now," Iwelumo said. "There's a great team spirit here and that is important. I'm buzzing." Iwelumo scored 10 goals for the Addicks last season after a successful spell at Colchester, where he scored 35 times over two seasons. Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has already signed Richard Stearman, David Jones and Sam Vokes, and said he was "delighted" to add Iwelumo to his new-look attack.

Winterburn joins as defensive coach

Nigel Winterburn is to join Paul Ince's backroom team at Blackburn Rovers to work as defensive coach. The former Arsenal full-back will travel with the team to their training camp in Germany tomorrow. The Rovers chairman John Williams said: "Pulling together a new team with the right balance of skills, experience and ideas across sports science, recruitment and coaching is clearly important and we are nearly there now." Winterburn's most successful years were spent as part of the Arsenal back four that claimed league titles in 1989, 1991 and 1998.

Moyes starts talks on new contract

David Moyes is expected to sign a new long-term contract before the new season starts. The Everton manager, who has just one year left on his current deal, has confirmed that talks have started with owner and chief executive Bill Kenwright. The club and manager have held preliminary discussions since towards the end of last term, but nothing had been concluded. Reports suggested that Moyes would sign a new five-year deal worth around £3m a year, the reward for establishing Everton as a top six club and taking them into Europe three times.
