Manchester City vs Lyon - as it happened: Pep Guardiola's men make losing start in Europe

Re-live the action

Who have the English clubs drawn in the Champions League?

Manchester City get their Champions League campaign underway tonight against Ligue 1's Lyon.

After being knocked out in the semi-finals of last year’s competition, Pep Guardiola’s men will be hoping to go all the way this time around.

Lyon, meanwhile, will be looking to progress beyond the group stages and avoid dropping down to the Europa League. With City favourites to secure the top spot, they face competition from Hoffenheim and Shakhtar Donetsk for second place.

There's no room in Manchester United's side for Antonio Valenica over fears that the artificial pitch at the Stade de Suisse may prove to have a negative impact on the 33-year-old's suspect knee.

Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho said:"We decided not to bring Valencia because his knee is not a knee that needs an artificial pitch."

The spotlight will be on Man Utd's Champions League campaign this season after a disappointing defeat to Sevilla in the round of 16 last year.

With the pressure on Jose Mourinho simmering just below the surface, a win tonight would do wonders for United as they have tougher games to come with Valenica and Juventus also in the group.

One player who will be eager to get stuck into the action tonight is Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku last faced Young Boys in the Europa League, when he claimed a hat-trick at the Stade de Suisse and followed it up with two further goals at Goodison Park while playing for Everton.

That was also the last time Young Boys hosted an English team in major European competition - back in February 2015.

Over at the Etihad Stadium Man City also get their Champions League run kick-started against Lyon.

City are favourites to lift the trophy this year despite never making it past the semi-finals of the competition.

We're 5 minutes away from what promises to be a decent game of football. I've got United to win 3-2 on my Super 6 so a goal fest would suit me to a tee.

The teams are out on the pitch and the Champions League anthem erupts over the stadium... here we go!

Utd come at Young Boys again, this time Dalot makes a run down the right wing and wins a corner. Rashford crosses it in but Mbabu sets off on the counter and he is lightning quick down the right. Young Boys get a corner but it's  cleared away easily by United
