Paramount Pictures is releasing a third film from its A Quiet Place franchise.

According to Deadline, the studio has hired Jeff Nichols (Midnight Special, Take Shelter) to write and direct the movie, which is based on an original idea by John Krasinski.

The Office favourite Krasinski co-wrote, directed and starred in the original 2018 A Quiet Place and its forthcoming sequel, which has been pushed back by a year to April 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The third film, set for release in 2022, is not expected to be a direct sequel, but rather be set in the same world that the original movie introduced, where humans are struggling to stay alive by being silent so monsters with super-sensitive hearing can’t catch them.

A Quiet Place, which also starred Krasinski’s wife Emily Blunt, grossed around $340m (£257m).

In an interview with The Independent in 2018, Krasinski said the film, let alone his career, would not have been such a triumph without Blunt.

“I was originally just going to star and Emily told me I had to direct it,” he said. 

“She knew it was a huge opportunity for me, and in the madness she just let me be myself. I honestly feel I wouldn’t have this career if I hadn’t met her, because she’s taught me so much about how to go about the business. She’s been my secret ingredient.”
