Ole Gunnar Solskjaer advised on the changes Manchester United must make to challenge for trophies

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has joined the chorus of onlookers calling for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to offer a more offensive balance to the Manchester United team.

United have flattered to deceive this season, producing big wins in Europe but still being without a home Premier League win this season, taking just one point and scoring two goals from four games at Old Trafford.

They sit 14th in the league table heading into the international break and, despite an improvement in result and performance level against Everton recently, Hasselbaink says the side simply isn’t as as good as in previous years and expectation is weighed against history rather than present reality.

"[Solskjaer] did get a reaction. They did play better after Everton’s 1-0. I just think that they have problems in the team," Hasselbaink said to Premier League Productions.

"They’ve got problems defensively and going forward.

“They’re not as good as they used to be. That’s normal because we’re expecting too much from [them] just because they’re Manchester United.”

In offering specifics, the former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker said that Solskjaer is being too cautious with his line-ups, particularly in the centre of the park where he feels Paul Pogba should be involved.

Fred and Scott McTominay were the starting pair against the Toffees, with just 10 minutes off the bench given to the French World Cup winner.

"That’s not a Manchester United team is it? Two defensive midfield players, going to Everton where you should have more attacking players on the pitch, especially Pogba.

“Longer term you cannot have Fred and McTominay in your team to become champions or to challenge for the championship.”
