Donald Trump 'will consult Nigel Farage before Theresa May' on UK policy proposals, says Aaron Banks

Donald Trump will run policy proposals affecting the UK past Nigel Farage before consulting Theresa May, a Ukip donor has claimed.

Mr Trump's chief strategist Steve Bannon will "run ideas" past interim Ukip leader Mr Farage, prominent Ukip donor Aaron Banks told the Daily Telegraph.

“There is no doubt about it that Steve Bannon will talk to Nigel Farage before any other British politician and run stuff by them," Mr Banks said.

Mr Farage became the first British politician to meet the President-elect following his election victory.

Mr Banks and Mr Bannon also met for more than an hour in New York on Sunday.

He said: “When he opened the door it was like ‘come on on Nigel’. We just sat there chatting for an hour and we ended the meeting.

"They are as close as two people can be in politics.”

After the meeting, Mr Farage shared of photo of himself and the billionaire grinning in front of a golden door.

“It was a great honour to spend time with Donald Trump,” Mr Farage wrote on Twitter.

“He was relaxed and full of good ideas. I'm confident he will be a good President."

He added: "Mr Trump's support for the US-UK relationship is very strong. This is a man with whom we can do business."

The interim Ukip leader was originally scheduled to meet Mr Trump's inner circle rather than the President-elect himself, but party sources later said the pair met and discussed "freedom and winning".
