V Festival: 'hungover' Justin Bieber slammed by fans for 'miming'

"I'm a little hungover, I'm not gonna lie," Justin Bieber told crowds at Chelmsford's V Festival. "You guys don't like to fake anything in the UK, which I respect."

However, Mr Bieber may soon learn that respect isn't as mutually earned as he would have hoped. The singer is facing criticism over a performance deemed by many fans as "lazy", following accusations that he mimed the majority of his set.

The Telegraph's review of Mr Bieber's slot branded him "lackadaisical and distant"; remarking how he paused during his set to describe the distant burger vans, spent the duration of his sensational 'Sorry' hugging his entourage, and often held the microphone by his side as he mouthed the lyrics to hit songs such as "Baby", "Love Yourself", and "Boyfriend".

The acknowledged highlights of the set came when Mr Bieber made full use of his voice, in an acoustic medley which encompassed current number 2 single "Cold Water" and "Love Yourself", which he co-wrote with Ed Sheeran.

Yet, those brief, shining moments of talent do not appear to have been enough to pacify fans, with many having paid £100 and above to attend the festival; sparking further concerns among those who purchased tickets for the UK leg of Bieber's Purpose World Tour.

The Evening Standard reports that the singer arrived at the site by helicopter, ordering 800 gallons of purified water for his stay at the festival, which is certainly an interesting an approach to the hangover cure. The divisive performance follows a largely troublesome weekend for V Festival, with rain and high winds delaying Sia's slot over technical concerns for her stage set.
