Sir Your Education Correspondent Ben Russell missed the obvious reason why applications to King's College London might have apparently fallen by 11 per cent between last year and this ("Fewer seek college places in big cities", 18 February). The fall is largely accounted for by the fact that applications from last year to two separate medical and dental schools (King's College London, and the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals) are being compared with applications, this year, to only one: the merged Guy's, King's College and St Thomas' Hospitals Medical and Dental School.
